Join the Policy & Program Task Force

Help Rebuild the Future of Mercer Island Schools

Parents for Mercer Island is launching a powerful, parent-led Policy & Program Task Force — and we’re recruiting passionate, solutions-driven volunteers from every school to lead the change.

Why This Matters

Our schools are at a turning point. Mercer Island faces serious challenges:

  • Programs like reading, math, and dyslexia support are being cut

  • Curriculum is outdated and lacks career-ready and STEM pathways

  • Events are being canceled due to a drop in volunteers

  • Student safety concerns go unresolved

  • Enrollment is falling, while financial mismanagement continues

  • Trust in school leadership is declining

Our kids deserve better—and this task force will help design the solutions.

What You’ll Do

As a volunteer member of the Task Force, you’ll help:

  • Develop policy proposals and community-backed programs to modernize academics and restore lost services

  • Create and coordinate volunteer systems so events, clubs, and classrooms are fully supported

  • Work directly with school administrators to assess needs, gaps, and shortfalls

  • Design safety-focused proposals for bullying prevention, privacy protections, and facilities improvements

  • Guide strategic funding decisions so resources go where they matter most

  • Engage other parents and grow participation across public, private, and homeschool families

This is not just about ideas—it’s about building real solutions that are ready to implement.

Who We're Looking For

We welcome parents from all backgrounds who are:

  • Passionate about improving our schools

  • Creative, action-oriented, and collaborative

  • Willing to commit a few hours a month to meaningful work

  • Excited to lead change from the ground up

No prior experience is required—just a willingness to roll up your sleeves and get involved.

Be Part of Something Bigger

This is more than a volunteer role. It’s a leadership opportunity to help shape the future of public education on Mercer Island. You’ll join a dynamic, parent-led initiative supported by Parents for Mercer Island, a 501(c)(4) nonprofit with the resources and momentum to fund programs and drive change from day one.
